TFF explains sponsorship auditing claims

Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) has dismissed claims that Tanzania Breweries Limited (TBL) auditors secretly audited the firm’s sponsorship for the national soccer team, Taifa Stars.

The federation’s competitions director, Boniface Wambura, said TBL’s auditing of the sponsorship is a regular exercise but was wrongly reported by one of the domestic daily newspapers.

“The auditing takes place every quarter of the financial year. TFF normally invites TBL auditors to examine the sponsorship,” he said.
“TFF has a good relationship with TBL and everything is done through agreement.”

Meanwhile, TFF has congratulated South Africa Football Association (SAFA) after the South Africa national soccer team, Bafana Bafana, secured a place in the next year’s African Nations Cup finals.

Bafana Bafana beat Sudan 2-1 to progress to the finals, scheduled to take place in Equatorial Guinea, with the former still having a game in hand in the qualifiers.

In another development, the Tanzanian soccer governing body has thanked SAFA for facilitating Taifa Stars’ preparations for an international friendly match against Swaziland.

Taifa Stars arrived in Johannesburg on Tuesday last week and trained for two days prior to facing Swaziland at the latter’s venue last Sunday. The two teams battled to a 1-1 draw.

“SAFA offered Taifa Stars training grounds and bus for transporting the team to and from Swaziland. TFF would have, otherwise, spent over USD 15,000 for the camp had the body decided to meet the costs,” Wambura said.

“Stars’ technical bench led by head coach Mart Nooij had earlier suggested that the squad should either arrive in Swaziland early or camp in South Africa…SAFA offered to facilitate the camp,” he said.
