Taanzania’s top female boxer Fatuma Yazidu will have a shot at winning a national title when she takes on Halia Ramadhan in the Pugilist Syndicate of Tanzania (PST)-sanctioned Flyweight bout at Mutumuyu hall in Bagamoyo on December 6.

The eight-round fight has been organised by BM boxing promotions and will be one of the day’s two national title bouts, according to coordinator Omari Yazidu.

The other will see Iddi Pialali fight Ramadhan Omari for the vacant PST Welterweight title, with the boxers slugging it out for 10 rounds.

PST president, Emmanuel Mlundwa, said Fatuma was previously expected to face Lulu Kayage but the latter opted out after failing to reach an agreement with organisers on payment.

Lulu’s coach, Rajab Mhamila, confirmed that his boxer refused to fight Fatuma after the former discovered she will get low payment.

“Lulu felt the amount of money she was to receive hardly matched her expectations and that is why she refused to fight. With the fight scheduled to take place extremely far from where the boxer resides, she felt the money would have simply ended on meeting transport costs,” Mhamila said.

“Lulu, however, still has what it takes to beat Fatuma and she is ready to fight the latter anytime,” he added.
Fatuma has won all 11 fights she has participated in and she is ranked first out of four boxers in the women’s Light Flyweight division in Tanzania by Boxrec.

The network has also rated her 46th out of 88 female boxers in the division in the world.

Fatuma met Lulu in a non-title bout at Friends Corner hall, Manzese, in the city on September 27 and the fight was declared a draw.
