RC wants financial experts be assigned to rural areas

Manyara Regional Commissioner, Eraston Mbwilo has suggested the need to allocate financial experts in rural areas in an effort to curb misappropriation of public funds there.

He made the call when speaking in Babati Township at the official launch of a new branch of the Arusha-based Institute of Accountancy Arusha (IAA).

“Millions of funds allocated for rural-based developmental projects, but most of the executed projects are below standards.

This trend needs to come to an end for the development of the nation and we can only reach there if we employ trained financial experts to work at the village and ward levels,” he urged.
“Public resources are plundered because of the absence of financial experts at these levels,” he alleged.

RC Mbwilo said establishment of a new IAA campus in Babati would stimulate development in the area as well as increase the number of financial experts and that way help control theft of public funds.
“I believe the institute will produce competent financial experts who will help ensure that all developmental projects ar
e executed to plan and allocated funds serve for the purpose,” he said.

“There are lots of funds which are channeled to rural development projects but the end projects are not equivalent to the allotted funds…” he added urging “…that is why it is important to have financial experts in rural areas.”

IAA Principal Prof Johannes Monyo said the launch of the branch in the district is part of the state-run institute’s expansion programme.

“As an institute, we want to be very close to people and IAA is set to start accountancy training before the end of this year,” he said.

“The demand for these kinds of courses is very high….setting campus here  will scale-down cost of training as beneficiaries wouldn’t have to travel to Arusha for the courses,” he added and announced that IAA will start with certificate courses, diploma and thereafter move up to degrees.
