Tanzania’s professional lightweight boxing sensation, Sadick Momba, has expressed confidence in landing an opportunity to take part in the next year’s World Boxing Federation (WBF) title bout by recording a resounding win over Ghana’s Emmanuel Agoye in a non-title fight next month.

Momba will face the Ghanaian in Accra and the fight’s winner will participate in the WBF Lightweight title bout against a German opponent slated for February.

Momba told The Guardian in Dar es Salaam yesterday he is lately training intensively for the eight-round fight under his coach Ramadhan Uhadi and he is determined to register a knockout win over the Ghanaian.

“I’m in great shape and my coach is giving me a variety of tactics that will help me emerge victorious. I’m highly motivated to win the fight,” Momba said.
“In recent fights that I have taken part in and outside the country, I have lost by points. I’m, however, determined to deliver a knockout victory this time,” he said.

“Most of boxing lovers in Tanzania are keen on seeing me excel in the forthcoming fight so I can land the chance to fight in the world title bout and that is definitely my target,” he added.

Momba’s record currently stands at 17 wins, five of them coming via knockout, five defeats (one knockout) and draw in two bouts.

He recently fought Russian Soslan Tedeev (4-0-0) in a six-round, international non-title bout in Manezh, Russia and the Russian garnered an unanimous decision win.

Momba is expected to leave for Accra on November 29 and will take the ring on December 5.

Meanwhile, promising Bantamweight boxer, Mohamed Matumla, has heaped blame on Pugilist Syndicate of Tanzania (PST) for his failure to participate in a supporting bout for the World Boxing Organization (WBO) Welterweight title fight pitting Manny Pacquiao against Chris Algieri penned for Saturday in Macao, China.

Matumla was highly expected to secure the opportunity but PST opted for Fadhil Majia after claiming that the former does not have a passport.
“I read in newspapers that I will not participate in the bout because I do not have a passport. I then phoned (PST president) Emmanuel Mlundwa to inquire about the matter and he blamed me for not having the passport,” he said.

“Mlundwa did not inform me of the bout early on…I could have secured the passport within three days. It is obvious they had already planned to send another boxer,” he said.
