Di Maria reveals advice from Ronaldo
Manchester United star Angel Di Maria has spoken of his friendship with Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of Argentina and Portugal facing off in Tuesday’s mouth-watering international friendly at Old Trafford.Di Maria and Ronaldo became team-mates at Real Madrid in the summer of 2010 and forged an extremely successful relationship in the four seasons that followed, helping the Spanish giants win six major honours and the club’s 10th European Cup triumph.
In the December edition of Inside United, the club’s official magazine, the Argentinian playmaker discusses the conversation he shared with his Portuguese counterpart that convinced him to leave Madrid and join Louis van Gaal’s revolution at United.
“Before we knew I was coming to Manchester for sure, he told me it was a massive club and that I would be very happy here and it would be good for me,” Di Maria reveals. “At that time, we didn’t know for sure that I was coming or not, so we didn’t go into great detail, but what he did say helped me greatly to make my decision.
“It was a very big moment in my career,” the former Benfica midfielder continues. “Leaving a club like Real and coming to as big a club as Manchester United makes you grow as a player and helps you progress in your career. It was a very important moment and I’m really happy here. Let’s hope things go well for me so I can be here for many years.”
