Massive boost for Dar Police academy taekwondo training
Unknown
Dar se salaam Police Academy (DPA)’s martial arts training has received
tremendous boost after the institution entered into an agreement with
the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) to establish a
state-of-the-art taekwondo dojan.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between DPA and KOICA for the project was signed at the former’s premises in Dar es Salaam last weekend, with the Korean agency expected to dish out USD 165,000.
The project, expected to be completed in 2015, is the initiative of the late Master OH Jongse, a taekwondo master from Korea who was dispatched to DPA by KOICA under the latter's World Friends Korea volunteer program to serve as a taekwondo instructor.
Master OH Jongse, unfortunately, passed away from malaria before finalising the implementation of the project.
“KOICA decided to implement the project in memory of their volunteer and to strengthen their relationship with the DPA,” Kim Seungbeom, the resident representative of KOICA Tanzania, said.
Taekwondo is one of the most effective forms of martial arts in the world. It improves strength, fitness and flexibility.
One of late Master OH’s students said he and the rest of the trainees have found Taekwondo stretching tough, but the results are great.
DPA commandant, SACP Ally Lugendo, said the project will help to increase the number of trainees who will receive taekwondo training at the institution and the dojan will serve as a space for additional martial arts training for the police.
A Tanzania police headquarters' official said the construction of Master OH Jongse Memorial Centre is among efforts to bolster the existing cooperation and cultural relationship between Korea and Tanzania.
“The Ministry of Home Affairs and the Tanzania Police Force will make sure that the standards and objectives of the construction are met,”the official said.
“Tanzania Police Force, through its Construction Unit, will supervise and cooperate with KOICA and DPA and other stakeholders to ensure the sustainability of the project.”

Expulsion awaits Kiemba, Chanongo
Unknown
Club sources affirmed yesterday that veteran midfielder Amri Kiemba and all-rounder Haruna Chanongo would be given a bye at the Msimbazi Street side.
The sources said that striker cum-playmaker Shaban Kisiga will be reinstated in the squad after the team’s executive committee was satisfied with his defence.
The trio was given indefinite suspension because of poor performances and ill-discipline.
Kiemba and Chanongo were accused of playing below average when the team met Tanzania Prisons in the Mainland Premier League while Kisiga was said to have verbally abused club officials prior to the match that ended in a one-all draw.
This was the fifth draw for Simba before they romped into the sixth draw against Mtibwa Sugar.
After the suspension of the three Simba won their seventh match to reach nine points and are currently placed seventh in the 14 team league.
Kiemba was also accused of sabotaging the club as he was playing well when it comes to the national side, Taifa Stars.

Small Industries Development Organisation (SIDO) Acting Manager Salma
Galasi yesterday told Dodoma entrepreneurs to form groups to enable them
to get financial institutions’ loans instead of operating as
individuals.
Closing SMEs trainer of training workshop on leather processing and manufacturing, Galasi said: “If you use these opportunities, you will be able to win the market and sell leather products profitably.”
The entrepreneurs were trained to use available opportunities at SIDO, which is collaborating with the Netherlands Development Organisation (SNV), aimed at increasing their expertise in making quality leather products.
Thirty-five entrepreneurs who took part in the training during SIDO was requested to increase equipment for manufacturing of leather products.
Dodoma District Commissioner Leffy Gembe urged the participants to make good leather products that meet both local and international markets.
Gembe said owing to competition from foreign products it is crucial entrepreneurs produced products that can compete with foreign goods.

'Neymar joining PSG is possible'
Unknown
The Brazil international thinks the Barcelona forward
is the type of star player the club should be looking to sign as they
look to cement themselves as a European giant
Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos believes Brazil and Barcelona star Neymar could join him at the Parc des Princes in the future.Neymar, who joined Barca from Santos in an €86.2 million (£69m) deal in May 2013, is the leading scorer at the Nou Camp this season, with 12 goals in the league and Champions League.
The 22-year-old was one of the few Brazilian players to emerge from the 2014 World Cup on home soil with his reputation enhanced and has been shortlisted for the 2014 Fifa Ballon d'Or.
Marquinhos, who is one of five Brazilians already at the PSG, believes Neymar is just the type of star player the French champions should be recruiting.
He said: "Neymar at PSG? Everything is possible if the club wants.
"The owners of PSG are in Paris to win titles. They structure the team and always looking for new names to strengthen the group. Anything could happen.
"No doubt the large group of Brazilians in PSG could be persuasive."
PSG already have Brazil centre-back David Luiz playing alongside Thiago Silva in the heart of defence, while Maxwell and Lucas Moura are also at the Ligue 1 champions

Bale turned down Man Utd - Agent
Unknown
The 25-year-old moved to Santiago Bernabeu from
Tottenham in a world-record £86 million deal in the summer of 2013 but
could have commanded even more to go to Old Trafford
Manchester United were prepared to make Gareth Bale the most expensive footballer ever but the Welshman turned them down to fulfil his "dream" of playing for Real Madrid, agent Jonathan Barnett has confirmed.Bale moved to the Santiago Bernabeu from Tottenham for a world-record fee of £86 million and went on to win the Copa Del Rey and Champions League in his debut season in Spain, scoring decisive goals in both finals.
But Barnett insists United were willing to pay even more to acquire the flying Welshman for David Moyes, but the player's personal desire to join the Spanish giants scuppered their chances.
"It was one of the biggest [transfers]," Barnett told Spanish newspaper AS of the Madrid deal. "And that one is an honour for me, because I knew Gareth when he was so young and I could make his dream real... he always wanted to play for Real Madrid.
"He could have signed with United or other teams, but he wanted Madrid."
When asked to clarify whether the Red Devils' offer exceeded even that of Madrid, he replied: "Not much more...but more."
Barnett also revealed Bale attracted interest from Barcelona and is adamant his client will one day emulate team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi by winning the Fifa Ballon d'Or.
"I'm sure that he will be the best player in the world," he insisted. "He will win the Ballon d'Or. He's 25 years old! I told the president and Jose Angel Sanchez and they laughed. They don't laugh much now.
"I told them that Bale was a better player than Neymar and has more impact. In Wales there are fewer people than in Brazil, unfortunately. But in the world I think Gareth is more known and important."

‘How we market ourselves either makes or breaks us’
Unknown
Bob Reyman Kabango is the managing partner of Kingston Marketing Group, a regional consultancy firm behind the recent creation and the September launch of Rwanda Association of Marketing Professionals. Pontian Kabeera had a chat with him.
You talk of changing the face of marketing in Rwanda; how?As a marketing management consultancy firm, we are looking at designing programmes, events, training activities to enlighten the people about the relevance of marketing to individuals, organisations and the nation.
Training programmes will be designed to enhance sales, marketing, customer care and communication skills of workers in companies.
Talk about the state of marketing in Rwanda today.
Marketing in Rwanda falls short of expected standards. At individual level many have not realised the need to revitalise personal marketing and self branding as well as its benefits.
Companies have also not done much, especially due to the fact that business owners and managers view investing in marketing as wasting capital. At national level, I must commend the government for ably marketing Rwanda as a nation through different programs such as good governance and creating a good investment climate.
What is so special about marketing that you speak so highly about?
It is the backbone and a great performance determinant of any entity — individual or organisation. How we market ourselves as individuals will either make or break us.
From the business point of view, it goes without mentioning that how we market our companies/products will at the end of the day determine the amount of sales revenue.
At national level, it will determine the appeal to citizens as well as the international community which at the end of the day has social, political and economic implications.
Rwandan businesses don’t advertise; how will you enhance their marketing?
How was the inaugural Marketers Night?
It could never have been a success without the support and participation of the different marketers and organisations. Its success is also premised on the aggressive publicity and outreaches that we made in a bid to put word out there.
The Marketers Night will be a quarterly event under different themes. The theme of the inaugural Marketers Night was, Marketing-the Bridge to Regional Opportunities and Beyond. The next one will be in January.
The Marketers Night is very fundamental to the economy. It’s an event that every company needs to be a part of to partake of the vast opportunities that come along such as empowering staff through capacity building presentations, lectures from different speakers and networking opportunities.
The event also offers an opportunity for brand visibility and company.
Why did you choose Rwanda?
While Kingston Marketing Group has offices all over East Africa, it has come out pronounced that Rwanda has received a lot of global investment attention that has attracted a whirlpool of international investors.
This has created great need for us, as marketing management consultants, to come in and offer services that are directed towards enabling our clients to position themselves strategically and able to benefit from this centre of global investment focus.
It is therefore our mandate as marketing consultants to prepare our entrepreneurs, citizens as well as existing local companies to be the key beneficiaries of the East African integration as well as benefit from the whirlpool of international investments opportunities, regional business partnerships, investment interventions and many others.

Here’s hidden gem for next president

In Summary
“It is discouraging that Tanzanians do not associate
accountability and loyalty with leadership qualities. I did not expect
to see people with questionable backgrounds making it to the list of
preferred potential candidates.”
Dar es Salaam. You have missed
the point, those who view the recent Twaweza research on voting trends
simply as pro or against them have been told. The key to the outcome of
the 2015 polls is more likely hidden in the undecided voters. Still,
those who are interested in contesting the election ignore the research
at their peril.
Whatever the case, opinion polls do provide food
for thought that may help voters chart their future more clearly. The
approval rating of the current national leadership has dropped
significantly--which may well mean that the people are not satisfied
with the way they are governed.
“The instinct for politicians and other
commentators to treat poll results as predictions of what will happen 12
months from now is strong, but misleading,” Researcher Aidan Eyakuze
said during an interview with The Citizen on Sunday. “We have a year to
the elections, which is an eternity in politics. Much can change during
that time, including the emergence of candidates who are currently
invisible, and that could completely change the nature of the
competition.”
According to up-and-coming social commentator
Remija Mtema, some people might dispute the research findings but there
is a lot to learn there for interested parties.
The number of people who have not made up their
minds on who to pick for national leader stands at 42 percent--a number
much higher than the ratings for the nine top candidates.
Said Mr Mtema: “The headlines that followed the
release of the results are sensational and good for selling papers. But
they lack the kind of certainty we are looking for. For me, the key
message from the citizens is this: ‘We have not made up our minds yet.
We are open to persuasion. Come talk to us some more’.”
The message is simple and straightforward: Those
who top the list of preferred candidates should not get complacent.
Those who do not fare well have no reason to be despondent yet. And
voters should not feel they have been rendered powerless by the research
results.
Mr Aidan Eyakuze, who is the associate director of
the Society for International Development, cautioned that these results
are not cast in stone and are simply a snapshot of public opinion at a
particular moment in Tanzania’s history--and that opinion can be changed
by events that shape ordinary people’s experience and their
expectations in the immediate and long term future. What the political
parties do in the next 12 months will probably be more important for
their election fortunes.
Another prominent commentator, Jenerali Ulimwengu,
shares these views. He argues that the results are in the hands of
undecided voters and adds: “When parties formally start the nomination
process, we will see many more candidates than we know now. This will
tilt the scales and we might end up with a candidate and winner we are
not talking about at this point. Voters might be influenced by one or
two events that happen between now and next year.”
According to Prof Kitila Mkumbo, the current
leaders favoured by the research results should not celebrate yet as the
same research shows that the people are not satisfied with the
performance of their leaders. “Unfortunately, most of those who are
leading in the opinion poll are current leaders,” he says. “With the
high number of undecided voters, this sends a very clear signal that
their lead might be cosmetic.”
Ms Mtema is disappointed that the results show
that Tanzanians are not concerned about the performance and
accountability of their leaders, preferring to go with the
business-as-usual syndrome. She adds: “It is discouraging that
Tanzanians do not associate accountability and loyalty with leadership
qualities. I did not expect to see people with questionable backgrounds
making it to the list of preferred potential candidates.”
Those on the list still have a long way to go,
given that their individual support has yet to get to the level of half
of those who have not made up their minds
